Pink

It's a wonderful feeling when you can match your lipstick to your hair colour. I've been thinking about colouring my ends for a while now and decided to just get on with it. Cheers to my sister for donating half a tube of Fudge's Pink Moon. It's not my best colouring job ever, but you get the gist.

DIY baby

I've always been a fan of customising my clothing/shoes/accessories to make them look the way I want and also stand out from the things other people are wearing. When I was in high school I sewed buttons on to my Converse hi-tops (win), spray painted t-shirts (not so win) and sewed op shop jeans to make them skinnier (win).

Lately, my customising efforts have gone as far as cutting skirts to make them shorter and not hemming them as I'm too lazy to visit my Nanna to use her sewing machine. Last night I actually achieved something by putting star-shaped studs on a plain pair of boots I bought from Cotton On for $10.

I bought two types of studs from eBay - stars and cones - and also plan to buy a shirt or two so I can cover the collar in cone studs. It's easy, you just push the spikes through the fabric and fold them down. A bit sore on the ol' fingers (could have used a thimble) and a bit fiddly but fun nonetheless.

Ta da!

So it's nothing dramatic but the studs definitely dress up a very plain pair of boots. And considering I already have a similar pair of brown boots covered in pyramid studs (not DIY, bought from eBay) I didn't want to go over the top.

Dave turns 50

Last night we celebrated Dave's 50th (which was actually on New Year's Eve) at the Edwardstown Bowls Club. The club was very old school, with adorable floral-cushioned chairs in the bathroom, club president photos and honours on the walls, a gorgeous retro bar and old people kitsch. It was a great night, Dave played with both his bands, there was a sizeable bar tab and we cooked a bbq for dinner. It was great to see everyone having a good time and dancing, it was especially lovely to watch my Nanna and Poppa dance like pros among everyone else who were doing the sloppy middle-aged jig.

Pete looking stoked to have his picture taken for my blog.

My always entertaining sister, Angela.

Holiday play time

The other week I went to my aunty's house to help her sort through all her excess kitchenware, linen and ornaments. We ended up creating two boxes worth of stuff to be sold on eBay and I managed to score a few things for myself, including a plain white tea cup and saucer set. Inspired by images I've seen on Tumblr, I decided to buy a porcelain marker and decorate the set. The outcome is not as fantastic as I expected (now I know to use a finer tip pen) but I'm still happy with it and it was a lot of fun.

The marker was really easy to use - you just draw on the porcelain, leave to dry for 24 hours then bake in the oven at 150 celsius for 35 minutes. I plan to trawl op shops for more plain items (or items with simple designs I can add to) and make more decorated pieces for gifts or maybe to sell.

The festive season

Well, we've finished with the festive season which went really quickly for me this year. I hope you all had wonderful Christmases and New Year celebrations. I pretty much worked right up until Christmas Eve when I had the day off to bake and have dinner at Dad's with half the family. I was a very hot day, but I got lots of lovely pressies and ate awesome food as usual.

On Christmas Day we visited Pete's family in the morning where I received my new bike from Pete. So happy! In the arvo we headed to my Mum's place to celebrate with the rest of the family to eat more delicious food and catch up with loved ones.

For New Year's Eve, Pete and I headed to a Hat Party hosted by our good friend. I chose a cute mini sun hat from Dangerfield and Pete went the budget/more creative option and made his from aluminium foil. It was a good night filled with many drinks, silly conversations and great people. I spent today doing absolutely nothing. After I woke at 11.30, Pete and I spent the day in our air conditioned lounge room watching Modern Family. In the evening I went to the beach with some dear friends, ate fruit and cheese, went swimming then watched the sun set at Glenelg with big bowls of frozen yoghurt. Hello 2012.

I feel bad for the lack of focus on Pete. This is what happens when you forget to make adjustments, you look incredibly selfish. Oops.
Pete's ready to party.
