20 Best Shoes from NYFW

I just had to blog this fantastic slideshow of the 20 best shoes from NYFW courtesy of Fashion Etc and the girls at Go Fug Yourself.

As a girl who sells shoes for a living, I get a lot of enjoyment from seeing new and inspiring trends emerge in the world of fashion footwear. Rodarte's debut collection of footwear encapsulates everything I love about the brand, their mixing of textures and patterns, as well as their ability to layer and juxtapose with outstanding results.

I'm loving the use of metallic materials or features to tie in with the 70s (disco and other) trend for A/W 2012, eg. Derek Lam, Prabal Gurung, Ralph Lauren and Thakoon.

Other standouts in the collection were Proenza Schouler's woven, almost tribal red and black structured chunky heels, Costella Tagliapietra's orange and taupe heels and SUNO's printed, lace-up bootie.

In case you missed it...

I have a new, wedding-oriented blog called Wild Ocean, Calm sea. I'll be writing about the inspiration and frustration of wedding planning in Adelaide.

If you are a planning a wedding, or have already been married, please feel free to offer any advice or suggestions  you may have for making the Big Day less stressful and expensive!

Thanks. xx

Lazy weekend

This weekend was a slow burn of heat, humidity, love and relaxation. Friday night after work, Pete and I headed out to see one of our favourite bands, La Dispute, play at Fowlers Live. We caught up with our good friend Steve, who we see no where near often enough and were entertained by the raw, emotive music of La Dispute.

Saturday I worked, then eased my aching back with a quick dip at Seacliff while we watched a couple get married on the beach. The wedding had about as many guests as we will have and so was inspiring to see how simple and lovely a beach wedding can be. At night we stayed in, watched movies on TV and cuddled on the couch.

Today we had a nice, slow start to the day with pancakes and coffee. We headed to town for The Eclective, a non-traditional wedding expo which I'll review shortly over at my new, wedding-oriented blog, Wild Ocean, Calm Sea.

During the week I also received an adorable Valentine's Day card from my dear friend, Emma, who is currently living in England. I love receiving letters in the mail and was so happy to hear from her.

La Dispute gig outfit: jeans from Savers, cameo singlet from General Pants, shoes by Airflex (Betts). Note the lack of pink hair :(

Adorable card sent by Emma.

Delicious Sunday breakfast.

Rihanna

Can we talk about how stunning Rihanna is, like, 24/7? Girlfriend takes a chance with fashion and doesn't always nail it, but when she does it makes me feel very ordinary. (Though if I had my hair, make-up and wardrobe done by professionals I would probably look a whole lot more polished.)

I'm loving her Goldie Hawn style bed hair, dark lipstick and cheeky black dress. On a girl with a different figure (ie. big boobs), the dress could have been be all kinds of wrong, but she pulled it off with ease. Better still she didn't go OTT with the accessories.

And how cute are Rihanna and Katy Perry as besties?

New York Fashion Week begins

The bright colours and splashes of neon that saw us through the warmer months have been replaced with a bevy of autumnal tones, burgundy, teal, mustard, tan to bring us into Autumn/Winter. Showing at NYFW are the trends we have seen and are already beginning to see working their way into the stores, such as a continuation of Aztec inspired prints and heavy use of 70s styling.

Two designers which have caught my eye among the shows of fashion's big and small names alike, are Nonoo and Mara Hoffman, whose collections were shown on Saturday Feb. 11.

Nonoo's collection in particular appeals to my personal style and is by no means groundbreaking in terms of silhouette or design, but is very wearable and trans-seasonal.

Obvious things to note are that fur is back in a big way. As a vegetarian I don't believe in wearing fur, but there's nothing wrong with a cheeky faux fur vest or jacket. Also, anyone who knows me knows I'm a huge fan of capri pants and totally stoked to see them widely available.

Mara Hoffman's collection has a strong basis in Aztec design, including prints, jewelery and silhouettes. The hats, boots and longer hemlines are a nod to 70s styling and influence.

The Friday shop

Today is the start of my weekend so I did what I enjoy best - went shopping. Rach and I hit up Savers (no surprises there) and didn't find much but I scored some great high-waited skinny jeans for $4.99. Then, as is tradition, we headed to Colonnades, grabbed a Boost juice and checked out the bargains. I bought a leopard print body suit from Valleygirl for $9.95 and a pair of black (glorified) leggings from Cotton On for $14.95 (with a cheeky staff discount from Rach). Good day, would have loved to buy more but I'm looking for such specific items that it makes me fussy and unlikely to settle for less (which is probably a good thing).

Today's shopping outfit (sans hat): Quirky Circus shorts, Dotti tank, op shop jacket, scarf as a belt and customised Rubi boots.

Newly purchased bodysuit and jeans with recently pruchased op shop belt and old fave platform sandals.

Burgundy jeans

Quick post today, I know I've been terribly lazy as a blogger and fashion enthusiast. I made a purchase on Thursday that I have never been happier with - burgundy jeans! I spotted the jeans at Jay Jays for $30, tried them on, perfect fit, got up to the counter and found out they were 25% off! So I paid a measly $22.45.

They are a lighter, redder burgundy than your regular burgundy, and finish just at the ankle (or maybe they are meant to sit higher and my legs are too short...) The fit is fantastic, and I am considering buying a second pair in the same colour or navy. I would love if they came in forest green!

Worn with my op shop navy blazer, silk sleeveless shirt from Forever 21 and newly purchased nude heels from Betts.

Still rocking the pink ends, but not sure what colour to go next or just to dye it a regular colour. Perhaps a nice golden tinted brown to keep it fairly natural. Any suggestions?
